Last Warrior by Gianluca Podestà

Nature is a master. She teaches us to live.

Especially in the evening, when the sounds of the world are beginning to quiet. The calm helps tidy your mind. You perceive sensations that are normally slumbering. You engage with your inner self; isolating yourself and your thoughts. Walking along these fields is a magical experience. Nature painted this for us. While you're wandering, searching for insight, you can find meaning here among the flowers. Suddenly the last hit of colors breaks the clouds, like an idea. It runs through the unconscious and lights up something extraordinary. That something suggests that you're not alone. You don't fight the burden of life merely relying on your own strength. These sunflowers, compact and calm, have the awareness that together nothing could be too much to deal with, or could be too strong to give up against. If you look carefully, there is always a friend or lover to count on. You have only to observe and wait for that ray of light that points to the buddy with whom you’ll make the journey of life. Together.

CURATOR NOTE

It seems that everyone loves sunflowers. You don’t think of them in any sense as alone. You think about them in fields. Together. If a tree could talk, would it tell us that these sunflowers, working together, provide it with comfort and support? That is what I see.

THE ARTIST

Gianluca is a creative landscape photographer based in northern Italy. His epic images use nature to help “paint” his vision. He has always been fascinated by American authors. He brings their "American style" into his photography and to the location where he’s going, which is a little bit tricky! But step by step, following tutorials, video lessons, and making mistakes day after day, he has finally created what today he can call his “signature style."

He has won numerous competitions and received many nominations during his career (MIFA, Epson International Pano Award, ND Award, Trierenberg), His work has appeared in many publications and magazines, both online and in print. Now, after almost 6 years of photography, he is still searching for new ways to convey creativity. His special focus is on capturing the beauty of nature combined with a drop of fantasy.

Gianluca is simply a guy who likes to discover new locations. He feels most free surrounded by Mother Nature. Through his photos, he portrays what both his eyes and his heart feel when he’s in the field taking pictures.

Artists United

A collection of photographers like the world has never seen.

A group based on diversity – language, race, age, ability/disability, years in the field, life experiences, and area of specialty.

26 photographers. 12 countries.

Speaking different languages - in both words and images. Landscape, travel, portrait, drone, adventure, fine art, wildlife, and even astrophotography. The intention was to assemble a diverse group – as diverse as possible. Pulling from every corner of the world.

Along the way, something happened. Something that could only happen in 2022 with the benefits of Discord, Zoom, Web3, Google Translate, NFTs, and modern-day enabling technologies. Working together around the world is now just like best friends meeting at the local coffee shop. Despite our differences, we’ve united. Our collective has become a fun and familiar place to relax. Day by day we’ve built greater friendships, made of sharing jokes, photography tips, favorite recipes, and lots of laughter. Many days the only thing we are serious about is our work.

We’ve combined our collective strengths. With a common bond of photography, we have helped each other learn and grow. Like a close family we have faced sickness and health, marriage and new life, loss and death, joys and sorrows, computer crashes and file sizing issues, dealings with young children and aging parents. Late nights, long days, crazy deadlines, and dealing with at least a dozen different time zones. When asked what makes us unique, the best answer is a miraculous, “we all get along?”

Even though many of us have not yet met face-to-face, and maybe never will, we have indeed become family.

So, in one way, we have failed miserably. We intended to be diverse. Different in every way. Instead, we win. Turns out we are much more alike than different. All navigating this crazy thing called life.

Working as artists to tell our stories through photography.

With a single, united passion.
