It is also known as NGC 2736 is a very small part of the Vela Supernova Remnant, located in the constellation of Vela. It is named after due to its linear shape resembling a pencil. It is about 815 light-years away from our solar system.
It is thought to be created by the shock waves from the Vela Supernova Remnant.
It was discovered by John Herschel at the Cape of Good Hopes in 1835.
