Aotearoa...the name given by the original settlers of New Zealand Maori...in which one of its translations means “The long white cloud.” It is thought that early Polynesian navigators used these long white clouds to help find Aotearoa.
Lake Wanaka in the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand is the fourth largest lake and was carved out by ancient glaciers during the ice age. The mountains that remain here are incredible and on this particular day, a long white cloud followed them almost the entire length of this arm of the lake.
I couldn’t help but take a photo of such a beautiful and iconic scene and to this day I’ve never seen the long white cloud appear here again.
