Hidden Power

Soap bubbles are formed by a very thin liquid film essentially made of soap and water, they are delicate structures and usually last a few seconds before bursting and returning to their original form.

Through a macro perspective and the correct incidence of light, this photographic collection has allowed us to see the incredible range of rainbow colors with fascinating random textures and shapes that emerge from these bubbles, the "chaos" in its most beautiful form. These patterns are caused by the interference of light reflected in the soap film, when light passes through its walls it exhibits vivid colors that change very rapidly, an optical effect known as iridescence. Depending on the thickness and movement on the surface, varying colors appear and disappear, different combinations are created every second.

In this collection I chose photos with unique formations, moments that will never repeat and are impossible to replicate. With persistence and a little luck, I managed to freeze this incredible physical phenomenon in a photograph, bringing us the opportunity to watch them closely and appreciate the exciting beauty they hide on its surface. It took me many attempts, setups, mixing liquids, different lighting settings and hours of studio photo shoots to get to this result and create these 12 images.

Iridescence by Bruno Militelli

Though I moved to Istanbul in 2012, even before then, from a distance, I was possessed by Istanbul's magic. Once in the city, I began to photograph the ancient city walls and mosques, treating them as an open-air museum. In those early days, I had a tendency to produce photographs of the Ottoman tombstones because they struck me as witnesses to a past time. But I gradually found the tombstones to be too still and boring. But as I looked at my photographs of these stones, I saw cute guests who appeared around them. It seemed as if the cats hanging about the cemeteries were waiting for a person to be friends with them. Noticing the cats changed my photographic style. I was able to create great compositions of these scenes of cats with tombstones.

Having traveled in my country and in many places in the world, it seems to me that the cats of Istanbul are the friendliest. In order that we never forget them, they come out onto the road to greet us. It is an indescribably wonderful experience when showing their love, they turn around one's legs and jump onto one's lap purring. It is impossible not to feel love and sympathy for them. Some cats are so lovable that one wishes to bring them home and live with them. In Istanbul, while walking around the city, in five minutes, without even looking, you'll find that the cats appear around you. They live everywhere. The cats of Istanbul are brave and flirtatious; it is as if they are showing you how they can act like humans. In many ways, the cats of Istanbul are the true residents of the city. It seems they have been there longer than anyone else. When one thinks of Istanbul, the sea, minarets, and domes of the mosques, the fish, seagulls, and pigeons come to mind, but the street cats are at least as important as all of these. When one considers the cats of Istanbul the meaning of Istanbul emerges. It seems that cats are the kings of the city.

Stray Cats by Sami Uçan

For more than 10 years, photographer Matt Humphrey has been granted exclusive backstage access to world-class productions in London’s performing arts scene. Dressed in black from head to toe, Matt adapted to the environment and gained the trust of technicians, actors, and producers to document life backstage. This unobtrusive, fly on the wall commentary earned him the nickname ‘Backstage Ninja’.

This backstage theatre work is unparalleled and extensive - only a handful of photographers ever get to capture this world.

Add in the logistical nature of shooting in extremely low light (high ISO, slow shutter, wide aperture), and only getting one opportunity to create the images - Backstage Ninja really stands on its own as a unique fly on the wall commentary of the unseen life behind the scenes.

The collection features 8 1/1 photographs - carefully selected vignettes of backstage life from a variety of perspectives - all taken during live performances.

The audience never gets to see what goes on behind the scenes, to peek behind the curtain, to see the hugely collaborative and choreographed flow and rituals of life in the shadows. This is a unique opportunity to do so.

Backstage Ninja

Living in New York at the height of the pandemic, as a street photographer in lockdown, I have tried to narrate my personal reality of fear, uncertainty, anguish and despair through self-portraits.

The new plague had confined us, allowing only for introspection, imagination, and symbolism to capture the new fuzzy reality, the invisible risk, the permanent fear. With too much time to think, anxiety ebbs and flows, the past seems blurred, the present doesn’t make sense, the future is uncertain. And yet, we try to overcome the paralysis, to reinvent ourselves.

Every morning I looked at myself, trying to connect with the intense emotions caused by the confinement and the harsh reality, recreating them photographically. Different ways to overcome my anxiety, to continue living, and, hopefully, also creating. This had been a long and constant struggle.

Isolation in New York by Ximena Echague

Bringing "Universe to Metaverse" takes dedication, photography, and astronomy knowledge, long hours of planning, shooting, and post-processing.

All images are shot with remote access telescopes and monochrome special astronomy cameras located in the darkest spots of the globe, bringing the beauty of the heavens above. Post-processed carefully using workflows developed/improved by myself.

Universe to Metaverse by Mustafa AYDIN

The Kulasai Mutharamman Temple, located at Kulasekharapatanam near Thiruchendur in Thoothukudy district of Tamil Nadu is famed for its unique mode of celebrating the Navarathri or Dasara Festival. Devotees who arrive for the festival take alms from house to housto raise funds for their expenses. And whatever money remains after their expenses are offered to the temple.

The devotees arriving for the festival undergo fast for 41 days. During the last ten days, which includes the Navarathri days, the devotees dress up emulating the gods and goddesses of the local pantheon. They have to keep away from intoxication and other forms of indulgent, as well as refrain from violent and sinful acts of any sort. Some of the devotees even assume the guise of Goddess Kali. Many people come to these dressed up devotees and seek their blessings.

TRANCE

The project was carried out in the areas of Etna in Sicily. By altering the colors of the real landscape, the subject finds himself immersed in new unexplored worlds where the only concern is to take a Selfie.
