An old jetty on a cold february morning. The path leading into the sea gives a high depth in this image. The long exposure created beautiful streaks of the clouds and plain water. Edited to monochrome by using the Ansel Adams zoning system. If printed on aluminum this gives an insane depth and enrichment of the black and white tones.
Marco Maljaars lives in the municipality of Velsen the Netherlands. Near the coast and close to the lakes. He has always been photographing since his childhood, first with an Olympus analog camera and now digitally.
There has always been an interest in long exposures. It fascinates him enormously how everything fades and a different world arises. His work focuses on stillness, tranquility and serenity Which is expressed in black and white where the long exposure is most of the times used. The black and white images are post processed according the Zone System by Ansel Adams. Generating subtle high quality black and white.
Marco is internationally awarded. He was finalist with the 2022 Siena Awards and 2023 Siena Creative Awards. He won first and second prizes amongst others with the IPA, Minimalism Awards, FAPA and ND Awards. His work “Amsterdam Canal Mirrors’ was used as a book cover and his work is published in several magazines.
